A great picture with good performances by Jim Coburn and an almost-unknown George Kennedy.

Hence the description the greatest Hitchcock movie that Hitchcock did not make!
DeleteIt seems incredible that this movie is 50 years old. It has a completely contemporary feel; much more so than films from later in the '60s.
ReplyDeleteI guess classic clothes in a timeless setting with articulate dialogue and a Mancini score help a lot.
Movies from the later 60s were trying to get into the "youth" thing, urbanity, sophistication, and, most importantly, wit fell by the wayside.
DeleteAlso, technical stuff, like the quality of film stock, took several hits.
