My what big teeth you have...Minnesota teen attacked by wolf

First documented serious wolf attack in Minnesota
Related Earlier Story: The mystery of the big cat in Detroit ends with it being shot...

Update:

BTW, I am all for wolf recovery.  And in Minnesota it is not wolf recovery but wolves that have never left that state. But if you have a problem wolf (which 99.9% of the time will be live stock related--so I feel that kid's pain in the story) I am all for shooting the problem wolf.  And last time I checked, Minnesota sold wolf hunting permits that get used.  So this story is more of a rare curiosity than intended to inflame passions against wolves.  That said, do not let little kids wander in the woods.  While I suppose they could be taken by a wolf or cougar...you most likely have to worry about those two legged predators.

  1. I'm sure the wolves are always serious.

Why do I think the enviro-nuts are about to find out why people worked so hard to bring these beasts to the edge of extinction?

  2. People worked hard to kill them off out of ignorance. They killed off Bald Eagles and Perigrine Falcons, too. One attack, by a deformed desperate and grossly under weight wolf (at least 40 lbs underweight for a Minnesota wolf), is not indicative of the nature of the animals. Quite the opposite. Wolves have n-e-v-e-r left Minnesota, ever, in the history of the USA. They've always been there. How many attacks again? Two attacks within a decade means wolf habitat is safer than 99% of suburban and urban America.

Ed, when you make pronouncements it would help if the subject was an area of your expertise. This isn't one of them.

  3. RE: The Detroit mystery cat....guess I was right about it being maybe bobcat sized but growing large in the imagination. No 25 lb cat is four feet tall, even standing on its hind legs.

  4. BTW Ed...it is Obama's "environuts" Department of the Interior who are hell bent to eradicate wolves. The purported wildlife organization all suppoerted and sponsored Obama for both eledctions and refuse to admit who it is (Department of Fish and Wildlife) that is advocating the kills. I recently wrote to one I used to belong to (until 2009) and told them to fuck off, literally, with the solicitations for money. Those San Franciso / fruitcakes have never been within inches of a wolf, let alone in the same acreage...they just want money, and pronouncements like yours helps them...they get paid and still kill off wolves. Obama + wildlife = death for wildlife.
