Well the thoughts that Ann's most recent meltdown were sparked by her recent interactions with Glenn Reynolds (and not her commentators) are mostly confirmed: "I could say: I guess [Reynolds] doesn't get it. But I suspect — as my linked post insinuates repeatedly — that he knows I'm right, and he doesn't want to have to say it."
Well that is some hardcore circular reasoning! That comment by Ann reminds me of someone...
But she does give sound advice on her commentators starting their own blogs.

Insults and demeans the men and cannot accept that some women disagree with her.... or anyone for that matter of fact has disagreements with some of her ideology regarding her pet issues of feminazi-ism, abortion and gay marriage. That is spot on. These are topics you can legitimately disagree on. This is very similar to the meltdown described in the Reason article.

DeleteYou know, when you have a giant shit-spasm like althouse did in insulting and kicking her commentariat, I figured that she'll take a little time off, get her head together, calm down, and go "Hey guys, you know what I'm sorry, it was all a big mistake. I fucked up on my end of it and I'd like to make amends..." but nope, I don't even think doubling down on stupid is an apt description here. She's gone, she's lost it. It's over. She has zero desire to re-engage with a commentariat and the last three weeks of her posts now that I go back and look at them prove that. Also reading that article from 2006 on her late night coffee clatch meltdown cemented the behavioral pattern she's been displaying.
ReplyDeleteI saw it, but I didn't recognize it because I thought it seemed to be out of character, from what little I knew overall, but wow. Just wow. She was building up to something. Her posts became more frenetic, her responses more staccato and pointed and sharp. Then BLAM-O. The bottom line is this, I highly suspect that she's a phony at this point. She's been able to weave a very nice persona of who she is and what she's done, not to take away from her accomplishments, but she's been hiding behind a facade and that facade cracked and crumbled. Full metal Inga doesn't even begin to describe the lunacy territory this is going in.
Oh and if you go over and look at the poll comments, you will notice one interesting thing, I haven't seen Ritmo say a word, but wInga sure has been a busy little butterfly letting everyone know how she feels and thinks about her lunacy. Not even Garage has shown up to say anything. I denied it before, but the whole thing smacks of sock puppetry at this point. It's sad to think that the whole thing over there was as giant colossal waste of time.
By the way, the golden rule of when you find yourself digging a hole you can't get out of is to STOP DIGGING. Althouse ordered more shovels.
DeleteI want you to know Methadras that I have personally spoken to Ritmo on the phone and he is a good guy. We agree about approximately nothing but we can still talk and laugh and engage in a discussion with out it coming to pistols. So I can vouch that he is not a sock puppet.

Trooper, I generally don't regard someone like Ritmo outside of the venue I deal with them in. I'm sure he's a good guy, but I wasn't referring to him as a sockpuppet, but it appears that there is plenty of that going on even though I took a more blind eye to it. Inga is a certifiable lunatic.

DeleteI think you are right. I've never seen her talk about her friends on her blog. I've never seen her mention anything about them and whether she even has any at all. All the interactions we see is between her and Meade and dogs. No other people that are 'friends' with her. Odd. I'm not sure if that's a deliberate image she wants to portray or if that's actually how her life is. It almost makes one wonder if this is how she glommed onto Meade. Or maybe it was vice versa.

ReplyDeleteAlso agree with Meth that, from what I knew of her (I'd emailed her over the last couple of years on a couple of non-blog subjects where she had some knowledge and she was very friendly and approachable), I'd expected her to calm down. Very surprised at all this.

The Althouse meltdown has been remarkable to observe, and it has solidified something for me: the essential uselessness of her own contributions to her blog.

Now, all that's left is the stuff I always skimmed over, so there's no point in even bothering anymore.

Anyway, my .01 just wanted to say that the shifting justifications and qualifications that keep being floated at Althouse are annoying.
Is it vacation? Nothing wrong with a vacation. It's deserved. She puts up topics and commentary every day of the week. Just lock the comments for two weeks, take a vacation and be done with it. But that's clearly not the (only) reason though I hope it's a nice benefit.
Is it to flush out a few particularly vile commenters? Fine, flush 'em. Bring on the ban stick. I'm fine with that even if it's me (not that I would have a choice). It's her blog. I won't stick around if I'm not wanted.
Is it a group of commenters? She seems to have an issue with the conservative commenters from Instapundit, or some of them, or one or two of them, or just conservatives. Who? Why not come out and name them? Or just say what is so offensive. So simple! Instead, we're urged to seek forgiveness (no one apologized!!!). Te absolvo. Bleh. Now is passively aggressively picking a fight with Reynolds. Not good. He said his piece and retired from the field and she could do the same but nooo. She can't leave it alone so copies and pastes another blogger who thinks Reynolds pushes the Man Perspective a bit more than a pro-choicer ought, supporting restrictions on abortion and all, that man and his wife-with-the-book! Plausible deniability, of course, as she's only re-publicizing this nonsense.
Why is it so difficult to just say what you mean? Instead, poke, poke, poke. Kind of like what she's done in some of her blog posts lately. Blog pokes. It generated a ton of comments, but some of them are really nasty and personal. I hate cheap personal attacks but quel surprise. Provocative opinions draw provocative responses. I stayed out of the mess over the 4th because the tone and tenor of the post was so obviously intended to provoke, and all the people who are prone to provocation were predictably provoked. Then Dingbat showed up and the whole thing went to straight to hell.
Here's what feminism has achieved: Leveling the playing field for assholes. And that's not necessarily a bad thing but see it for what it is.
