As demonstrated above (even though it is not a debate setting), Ryan can discuss policy. Ryan can certainly hold his own. I also do not anticipate big gaffes from Joe Biden (not in a debate setting). Anything can happen, but Biden will probably do fine in the debate. Update: Legal Insurrection (optimistic but, don't get cocky)
As you can see in those clips, Biden is pretty good at landing punches in a debate context. Ryan must know that the attacks on him (and especially Romney) will be delivered from Biden in anticipation of Romney-Obama debate #2. So the challenge for Ryan will be to deflect and pivot back on offense with Biden.
