Karl Rove is making things worse. We do not need pundit press conferences right now...Except for perhaps Todd Akin going on Dana Loesch's radio show...developing...

The Architect
Jeff Goldstein is raising a serious question of why play into the Democrat faux outrage.  He is of course correct.  The outrage is false and predictable. That does not mean Todd Akin should stay in the race, because Todd Akin should have anticipated it and avoided it in the first place.

All that said, Karl Rove needs to shut up.
I would rather think Ashcroft and other conservatives could speak with Akin privately and explain it is time for him to do the right thing.  Press conferences (other than Akin announcing he is dropping out) are not helping.

This is not personal.  Akin did not have some moral lapse.  The concept that Democrats use abortion in the case of rape as some justification for abortion on demand is pretty obvious.  And the idea that the stress of rape and abortion makes pregnancy less likely hardly seems radical or misogynistic.  But what Akin said is having a negative effect on not only his campaign but the entire GOP effort.  And given the deadline of 5:00 p.m. today for Akin to drop out voluntarily (without Missouri's Democrat Secretary of State's approval) the pressure is on for Akin to do that.

Think of it like a tied baseball game in the playoffs and the pitcher allows a run with the bases loaded.  He looks like he is in trouble.  You either let him stay or call for the relief pitcher.  Almost everyone on the GOP side is calling for the relief pitcher.  The batter wants the pitcher to stay.

Akin is going on Dana Loesch's show shortly?  Do the right thing Todd.

CAC as Ace of Spades looks critically at that PPP poll that had Akin up.  It is a trap.  Akin is dead man walking.

Update:
I was just listening to Rush an hour ago and he basically said Akin should drop out.  Rush said we do not need a Republican Biden.  It is not about right or wrong (although Rush noted describing rapes as "legitimate" is wrong), the system is rigged, but we expect more from our Republican candidates and the overall issues are bigger than any one man.

Akin says he is staying in.  Confirms it with Dana Loesch.

So it is what it is (at least for now).  We will see if Akin changes his mind, but I damn well hope there are no more GOP press conferences.
