I changed my mind about Prosecutor Angela Corey (who is prosecuting George Zimmerman)...

When Angela Corey flipped out about Alan Dershowitz, I thought she was dumb and vicious.  Now that she is prosecuting George Zimmerman's wife for perjury, I realize Corey is ruthless and vicious. She is smart in a cunning evil way.  Corey intends on destroying Zimmerman for her own political benefit.  Prosecutors are not supposed to zealously pursuit winning, they are charged to do justice.  This is not about justice.  She does not like that the merits of her case are weak, so she is changing the dynamics to get the result she wants.  This is about prosecuting Zimmerman in the press and polluting the jury pool (and too bad for Zimmerman's wife).  Angela Corey is a disgrace.  Corey is going Nifong on this case.
Update:  Angela Corey likes to be the center of attention...
Professor Jacoboson at Legal Insurrection has more.  So does Patterico (who generally is pretty pro prosecution, since he is a prosecutor himself).

  1. I agree with you that this prosecution is very evil but question whether it will help Angela Corey politically. Martha Coakley participated in the persecution of the Amirault family (daycare case) in MA and I would be surprised if there weren't voters who held it against her, voters who would usually vote for the Democrat but sincerely care about civil rights and understood that Coakley didn't give a crap about civil rights.

Same goes for the Zimmerman case and the Dharun Ravi (Rutgers "spycam" case): These cases open some eyes about the assaults on civil rights/civil liberties by self-styled and self-serving goodie goodie politicians.

    1. Voters should hold prosecutors accountable for bad prosecutions. I hope you are right. I hope voters realize how bad this prosecution really is.

    2. The Amirault matter was not prominently mentioned in media coverage of Coakley's Senate run. It took a perfect storm of gaffes for her to lose to Scott Brown. Thereafter she was reelected handily as Attorney General.

I'm not surprised at this happening in Florida. Remember the Fijnje case when one Janet Reno was county prosecutor?

  4. I linked over from Legal Ins. I've been following this case for a long time. It is the political arrest I've witnessed in my state. Twenty years in police work familiarized me with how the SAO works. Corey is WAY out of line. Beyond being aggressive. She made this political and personal. And she has revealed some serious personality flaws. Flaws no person in authority should possess. This is my latest post.

  5. Or... maybe she was charged with perjury because she knowingly lied in court.

    1. This is not normal. It is vindictive.

    2. I don't believe she's seeking to prosecute Rachel Jeantel for perjury, an instance which is blatant and occurred in multiple lines of questioning.
