With St. Patrick Day tomorrow and Rule 5's deadline today, it only makes sense to feature the lovely Irish actress Dominique McElligott.  I did enjoy Hell on Wheels and she was the shining star of that series. Hell on Wheels was renewed for Season 3.

AMC Hell on Wheels, Season II, Episode 1

I would give you a review of the Season II premier of Hell on Wheels, but I have Dish...

I was a fan of Season One of AMC's Hell on Wheels.   Hell on Wheels is not Deadwood, The Sopranos, or Mad Men, but I like it.  Here is the preview for this week's show.   Here is the preview video for next week.  I am going to have to bite the bullet and order these on iTunes.  Damn Dish TV for dropping AMC.  I would drop Dish, but I am on contract so I will be damned to give them the penalty.  But I will not renew for sure.

Apparently Dish got caught destroying evidence in its lawsuit with AMC.  AMC is seeking over two billion dollars from Dish in that case.  It is scheduled to go to trial in September.  Word is Dish will cut a deal and settle because it is facing some difficult odds.  

Dish Network is terrible. If you are considering a television provider, I would recommend you not get Dish.

Dish Network is having a feud with AMC.  So it banished AMC to the hinterlands and is threatening to get rid of it altogether.  As reported by the LA Times:  That feud is getting nastier.  Threatening a Mad Men black out at the season finale?  Is Dish insane?  A real genius move cutting one of the highest rated and popular channels on cable.  Comcast and Direct TV are loving this.

Viewers like Mad Men more than Dish...

AMC happens to have shows many viewers care about like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels, The Killing, etc..  But because AMC is in a lawsuit with a Dish subsidiary (and Dish is losing the lawsuit) Dish is now taking it out on AMC (and of course fans of AMC shows).

Dish Network unfortunately treats its customers worse than it treats its program providers.  Dish customer service is poorly rated.  Customer Service at Dish is abysmal.  And Dish will get you with its fine print adhesion contracts and make you pay even if you cancel.  Dish is terrible.

Hell On Wheels (or AMC's version of how the West was won)

Hell On Wheels got renewed by AMC for a second season.  For those of you who have not seen it, it depicts the building of the Union Pacific line of the trans-continental railroad in the late 1860s.

Here is a review from the New York Post.  I do not disagree with the review.  The main actors do a very competent job with the material they have.  The show has its flaws, but it is definitely entertaining and watchable.   Then again, I like westerns.  What do you expect, I am a cow.  The finale for this season will be next month.

The actual history of the trans-continental railroad is far more complex and nuanced than a television series with a limited budget can deliver. The cast, with all its extras, is still obviously far less than the actual manpower that would have been required to accomplish that engineering marvel.  Deadwood, in comparison, always managed to seem like a real 19th century mining boom town.  The Hell on Wheels filming locations, however, look very authentic and it is not done on some studio back lot.
