So what weapons did Adam Lanza use in the Connecticut shooting?

We are all heartbroken over this.  Here is an article intended to make people freak out.

Wearing a military-style vest, Adam Lanza killed his mother at their house, then stormed into Sandy Hook Elementary School carrying a Glock 9 mm handgun, a SIG Sauer handgun, killing 26 people, including 20 children, before turning the gun on himself.
The two pistols were found inside the school and a .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle was found in the back of his mother's car in the parking lot.
Here is what I can glean from it.  The murderer probably used two handguns, probably both 9 mm.  Whether the Bushmaster .223 rifle was used is unknown (at least from this information source), because it is reported it was found in his vehicle.  What type of rounds is probably unknown.  My guess (and I am guessing) is it was NOT used because had he been brandishing a rifle he would not be let in the school.  The article certainly suggests that.

So would have banning assault rifles prevented this?  Probably not.  Are we really prepared to ban all 9mm handguns?  And are gun free zones a good idea?

I am sorry I have to defend gun rights on a day like this, but I do.  I want to stop these attacks as much as any liberal.  But banning guns in a country like ours is really not an option.  If you want to propose something to prevent shootings like this, please let me know what your solution is.  This is an option.

Update:

Gun control will not prevent these incidents.  Remember this one and this?

Bloomberg, as usual, cannot control himself.

Obama said nothing about violence in Michigan, but quick to react to this incident.

John Podhoretz: Gehenna in Connecticut

"After a shooting spree," author William Burroughs once said, "they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn't do it." Burroughs continued: "I sure as hell wouldn't want to live in a society where the only people allowed guns are the police and the military."

Ghouls exploit tragedy to push gun control on law abiding citizensDavid Frum is an asshole.

King Shamus at Conservative Commune

The issue is not guns, the issue is how to prevent the mentally ill from committing such heinous acts...

The Clackamas Mall Shooter was confronted by a conceal carry permit holder and that is why the death toll was limited.

Violent crime is much higher in countries with strict gun control (imagine that?)

Obama promises to use all his powers to change the Second Amendment

There are no easy answers...

  1. I saw a photo on liberal blogs of a souped-up Bushman rifle (scope, oversized magazine) implying that it was used. Of course it was a photo cut and pasted from somewhere.

I've fired both the SIG and the Glock 9mm. In CA, the magazines can hold at most 10 rounds each. He must have had extra magazines.

    1. The shooting occurred in Connecticut. Gun laws are different in every state.

    2. And your point? The guns Lanza used were probably legal in Connecticut.

  2. Plain and simple, I support the right to bear arms. I have never bought one myself so I don't know if this does exist but who would whine about having a background check or doing some kind of mental stability test?

    1. We don't have a gun problem in this country. We have a societal problem and the sooner we admit it the sooner we can confront it. Maybe 24/7 wall to wall nation wide media coverage gives the ever growing population of lunatics neat ideas about going out in a blaze of glory.

    2. If there was a better method for disqualifying firearm ownership and use if you were deemed mentally unstable, I would support that if reasonable. You are required to answer certain questions when purchasing a firearm about such issues. They do run a search via computer at point of sales and if you come up they will not sell to you.

But as we saw in Norway, gun control alone is not going to deter a mad man.

    3. Justin Handy: NOBODY would whine about background checks. We already have this. Not a problem. Mental Stability sure I (we) would support that. BUT the problem is, that is not what is being proposed. Guns are not the problem. Sorry, but look at everything that is illegal and how has it. Drugs - being illegal does not stop it. Prostitution is illegal - hummmm enough said. Mac 10s are illegal, gangs still have them. Hummmmm folks the point here is to take guns away from law abiding citizens and those pushing this know that is true.

  3. Where did Adam actually get the guns? is there a screening system in place for people before purchasing weapons? Is there a required certificate/licence to be shown bwfore purchase? I am completely ignorant of current procedures and requirements. Do places like walmart have stringent controls?

    1. When you purchase a gun at a Walmart, you fill out a form with your social security number and questions about drug use, mental health and criminal history. Then they call it in to a data base. If it gets a hit, the sale is declined.

I heard Lonza got the guns from his parents (I think his mother). So they were probably legal guns. Only the handguns were used at the school (not the rifle).

  4. his mother knowing how mentally unstabble he was, still owned an assualt rifle (let's be honest it looks as one) and people want to ban guns? Sorry but if you want to avoid this stuff all of your damn family should be scanned for idiocy before you get to own a gun, not just you.

    1. http://therionorteline.com/2012/12/15/the-duties-and-responsibilites-of-nancy-lanza/ Read this. Yes, Nancy Larza had responsbility for what happened. As for the "assault rifle" Larza did not use it in the school, he used pistols.

  5. Adam used the assault rifle, and the 20 6 and 7 year old children EACH had from 2 to 11 bullets rip into them at close range. Their bodies/faces were so destroyed, the ME had to use photos for ID, as the parents would've lost their minds if they had actually seen those tiny bodies, so mutilated. The mother whose weapons they were was a gun nut and home schooled the boy, then complained he was antisocial. Keep defending your assault weapons, and prepare. If someone you know or a thief steals your overcompensation paranoia macho-wanna-be toys, and any of mine get hurt by it, I will find you. And I won't need an assault weapon to repay you. You can't shoot someone who snags you in your sleep. I'll leave you just alive enough to sue you, and the idiot who sold you an assault weapon, so dang good, your families will be begging in the streets for generations. Carry on.

    1. Anonymous.....I agree with EBL. I think you and Adam are the same. BTW, you want my address? Come on by. let's talk! PS I do not own an assault weapon. Very few of gun owners do own one. But I invite you to come by my house. Let me know and I will send you my address. I would love to talk to you in person.

    3. Assault rifle was not used. It was found in the back seat of the car. Not in the school. And I agree with EBL. U r sick if u think spreading false info about this is right. U should be locked up. Sorry about the anonymous but I don't have any other way to post.

  6. I know for a fact that my state (Texas)has a VERY poor mental health system in place, all that is wanted is to free up beds in state mental health hospitals due to over crowding, so I see people placed back in society that are not ready and need more help. Mental health is, like it or not a growing health concern in this nation and must be addressed. We need to look at spending money on our own instead of supporting rebels in other countries and other foreign aid including humanitarian aid. On the gun issue, I am a gun owner and I feel that if you have a mentally challenged person that has access to your home then all firearms should be secured in a good vault. The guns were a tool that was used by a mentally unstable person and not the evil. How many children are killed each year by drunk drivers but I don't see the outcry to once again ban alcohol because it is socially acceptable. In closing my heart and prayers go out to all families impacted by the Friday shooting and also to the first responders for what they had to deal with and see.

    1. All states need to have a better mental health system in place. And I know that it is expensive to do it.

    2. Anonymous: Great question. I for one investigated the drunk driving question. In 2009 alone (ONE YEAR) there were more children killed in alcohol related car accidents than Children killed by guns since Columbine. Add up every child killed since Columbine and all the way to Sandy Hook. It is less that those killed in one year by Alcohol related accidents. But is there Alcohol ban? Why is Washington not looking into this???? Also, I invite you to verify my stated facts. I do before I write them.

  7. Bushmaster rifle confirmed as primary weapon.

I don't see a need for any civilian to own any weapon that is capable of such sustained fire. But at the same time, if he had only had the pistols, I don't see a change in outcomes.

Honestly I don't see any easy solution. The US was a country forged in the barrel of a gun. Americans as a whole enjoy their freedoms, including gun ownership. I think the better focus in this situation is to look more into educating people on understanding and treating mental illness.

    3. what gives you the right to say i cant own this type of fire arm which i do. sence they first put the on the market for civilians to buy and that gun has never shot any human being. and i know that for a fact. also this article were writing comments about says he did not use the AR-15 style rifle he used the pistols.

  8. He used two 9mm handguns only. No other weapon was used in the killings. The media is using its powers to brainwash all the liberals into thinking he used an assult riffle.

    1. I thought that was the case too. Then there were statements saying he did use the Bushmaster (which btw is not technically an "assault" rifle under the old federal statute). First reports were the rifle was left in the car, then it was a shot gun was left in the car. We don't know for sure, but I think it more likely than not the rifle was used. But this case has had so much false information, I am waiting for the official report.

  9. OH yea.....PS the article says that the glock and Sig can fire up to 5 rounds per second. Nobody and I mean nobody (except a highly trained person) could hit anything pulling the trigger 5 times per second. The gun has a kick to it. It moves. Stupid comment!

    1. It is just intended to inflame.

These were frightened children and he just pointed and shot at them. Any automatic .22 pistol (which hold around 10 rounds and have exchangeable magazines) could do the same carnage as these 9mms (depending on the bullet type).

It is a horrible act. What was done was evil. It was the perpetrator who was the cause of this. The firearms used were just the tool of that evil intent. Unless you are prepared to ban all firearms completely (and figure out a way to keep them out of the hands of criminals too) I do not see how you can blame the guns for this.
