Movie Tropes: Born Sexy Yesterday

A classic old trope--closely related to the more modern form Manic Pixie Dream Girl

Harrison Ford is a sexual predator? and Abduction As Romance

Goth Rebel Dream Girl

Joe Morrissey: Hey--I may be a disbarred convicted felon--but I am also a Democrat!

AoSHQ: Morning Report 11.08.19

Camp of the Saints: The left is about grooming (in all sense of the word)

The narrator of these tropes is too politically incorrect. Still the tropes are interesting and are ones that you see going back to Greek myths. Hey--this trope is also alive and well in the recent Virginia state elections too

New Sport Team Mascot Battle: The name 'Stallions' is too sexist... Update: New Petition to Reinstate Stallion Name...

Daily Gator, Weasel Zippers and Breitbart noted this story: apparently the name Stallions is too sexist for a sport team mascot name...in Kentucky.  Last time I checked they had a lot of stallions in Kentucky.

Update: Heat Street is noting that there is a petition to reinstate the name Stallions, gaining 10x the votes of the repeal petition

While the decision reeks of sexism, the word stallion itself is not sexist at all. Rather, I think they mean the name Stallions is too male.

Why not the Cows? Cows is a good name...

Alternatively, in the spirit of compromise, what about naming this sport teams the Geldings? Or perhaps they should choose an animal that can change its gender over its life time.

Then again, going with classical references such as the Amazons might be a more fitting name. They can create their own Themyscria in Kentucky.

Wow. If Stallions are too triggering, I am guessing it is only a matter of time until 'Speedy' the Geoduck (gü-ē-ˌdək) gets dumped by Evergreen State College:

Hillary Clinton isn't the only one with bad ankles...

I found this to be a very interesting, if a bit disconcerting, article. Sam Anderson does a great job.  I enjoyed the mix of history, art, kitsch, bureaucratic inertia, and potential disaster.

Here is another story about sculpture that I enjoyed:

Monstrance for a Grey Horse: James Acord, the sculptor, was the subject of a forty-thousand-word Profile by Philip Schuyler, published in The New Yorker in two parts in 1991. You have to be a New Yorker subscriber to get it, but essay describes Acord's inspiration and creation of his sculpture (while not Michelangelo's David, had its own technical challenges, such has carving Barre, Vermont granite).

Acord wanted to create a piece to mark a nuclear waste site that could last 10,000 years.  Hence his choice of the most durable (and some of the hardest) carving stone available. Acord did all the carving with hand tools.

Can't say I am a big fan (as art) of these Trump statues or paintings or these Hillary paintings, or this oneHillary down under street mural or Hillary Bust, but since I referenced Hillary's cankles I have to link them.

2011 Man Of The Year?

Winning?
Jonah Goldberg has a point.    Charlie Sheen is hardly a man, given his recent behavior, but he is a symbol of a very pathetic year.  And if Ms. Korbe raises the issue of pretty vs. hot as it pertains to women...Jonah raises in his piece the issues of adult vs. child, man vs. jackass, well we could go on and on.
