Inevitability: Thomas Sowell and how to win the general election against an incumbent...

To beat an incumbent you have to win on ideas.
I do not disagree with Thomas Sowell's underlying argument.  But is the only choice for the GOP Romney, Santorum or Gingrich?  I cannot see the party uniting behind Santorum, let alone Gingrich if Mitt Romney goes to the convention with a substantial lead but not enough to clinch outright.   Santorum may be a fighter but he also seems to have a knack for alienating potential allies.   And Newt Gingrich has far less of a chance than Rick Santorum.
