Cod is the traditional Christmas Eve fish...but of course that is salt cod or baccala.
Given we can get fresh or frozen cod readily, you can skp the salt cod unless your a purist. The one advanage of salt cod is the fish is firmer and has a stronger flavor. The disadvantage is you have to soak the fish a couple of days in advance to get rid of the excessive salt. If you like it mild and flakey, fresh cod is for you.
