Both disasters started with poor land management. The conditions that led to these horrible events were known and predicted in advance. Eventually bad decision making catches up with you. Frontline did a good job with the video above. A touch of climate change, but it is really about more immediate human failures that lead to the Maui catastrophe. LA is eerily similar.
