France did not lose in 1940 due to cowardice (French troops  fought valiantly) but due to terrible decision making and leadership.  While the USA is not facing being overrun militarily (yet), our enemies are certainly looking at what is happening in Afghanistan and paying attention. Our allies are also paying attention.

You avoid wars by being strong. Weakness invites problems. Strength gets respect.
