News of the World: A Review

Interesting film. Tom Hanks and Helena Zengel are excellent. It has a few plot twists that don't make a lot of sense, but overall I liked it. It takes place in central and south Texas (although the filming was in New Mexico). The time period is post civil war, Grant is president. Hanks, playing Captain Kidd, is a Texan civil war veteran who travels town to town reading the news to people (almost like a proto-blogger). He ends up taking care of and protecting young Johanna, a Kiowa captive who can't speak English who crosses his path.  It is based on a fictional book by Paulette Jiles (although the settings and circumstances are based on historic circumstances at the time).
