El Día de la Batalla de Puebla, May 5, 1862
It is secondary holiday in Mexico (other than in Puebla). It is really just an excuse to eat Mexican food (even if a lot of it is at best just Mexican inspired) and drink Mexican beer and tequila. That works. Some interesting recipes here.
I like to think of it as the Mexican version of St Patrick's Day (there are more Jose O'Tooles than you think).
ReplyDeleteEverybody has an excuse to get plastered, go around yelling, "Viva Zapata" (instead of Erin Go Bragh), and sing "Ay ay ay ay" instead of "Danny Boy".
Know of any Moslem holidays that are any fun?
They should call it La Noche Triste, since all their girl friends are passing on.
ReplyDeletePS St Paddy's Day isn't that big in Ireland BTW. It's just people feeling a little homesick.
