100 years ago today: Allied forces start attack on the Dardenelles in Turkey


The attack started on March 18, 1915. As you know from history and the film Gallipoli (which documents the disaster on April 25) it did not go well for the Allies.

  1. The big battles of WW I are all going to be revisited in the coming years. Kudos to you for getting a head start.

    More to the point, Gallipoli made the cardinal mistake of amphibious ops - move inshore and expand the beachhead.
