What is odd is how little is known a week after the aircraft went missing. It is still mostly speculation in the media (although I assume investigators are keeping what most of what they know or are learning to themselves). If it crashed in the ocean, wouldn't there be evidence of some sort (floating debris, oil, kerosene slicks, etc.).

This is especially tough on the families who have no idea whatsoever (which is shocking after a week) if their loved ones are dead or kidnapped.
