Radio Lab: Desperately Seeking Symmetry

Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man
An interesting show on symmetry in nature today, and one definitely worth listening to.  The show went in a few different directions, with the over all theme being symmetry.

  • Mirror, Mirror...  This was interesting on exploring how symmetrical is not equal.  Most of us know facial symmetry is actually quite profoundly different.  But chemical compounds also have left and right handed versions.  What can be perfectly benign and useful on one hand, can be deadly the other way.

  1. This may be totally unrelated, but...symmetrically, if you were to take a try square and place the apex of the tongue and blade against the tip of your nose, you would find that your cheek bones make a right angle.
