Although I would definitely not classify Minnesota and Wisconsin as part of "Yankeedom." And they should not be grouped with Michigan and Illinois either.
There is a degree of similarity in that regard, but the Upper Midwest (and why classify Canada to the North as the midlands) is not the same as New England.
And Ohio is its own bastion of weirdness.

ReplyDeletePS They put WI and MN with the Down Easters because they tend to think (I use the term loosely) like the people in Taxachusetts.
