Notable Mayflower Decendants

9 comments:

  1. Including me. I actually have a double helping. But the one my father used when he joined the Mayflower Society was John Howland.

I like him--he was swept overboard during a storm and managed to be rescued because a rope had tangled on his leg.
He was also an indentured servant--a slave, more or less. And as such, and thus worth less than an actual human, he was the first guy to set foot on dry land...you know, in case there were monsters or savages or whatever.

That's right. Part of my family in America came from slaves, and it's documented. Way more than certain people...who claim their parents were slaves.

    1. My mistake. It is John Howland. So you and Baldwin are cousins. You are also related to Sarah Palin and George Bush.

    2. Yeah. My grandmother was seriously, severely into genealogy. It was an obsession, and she was fairly proud of finding the Bush connection. At the time--during the says of HW, who I think is a decent guy but detest for his political stunts--I was offended.
      LOL.

  2. And speaking of which...did you see where the person in Georgia put "slave" on a jury form under occupation?

I thought Crack claims to live amongst the Mormons in Utah?

  3. I can be pretty sure I'm not on the list.

But my forebears in three of the generations right after they came over from the Netherlands had 10, 11, and 13 kids, so upstate New York is awash in my family.

  4. In Australia people can trace their ancestry all the way back to a prison ship.

    I love Aussies.
