Perfectly said. So far, I've seen no ill effect of the government shutdown. I'm also not a veteran trying to see the WWII memorial, but I'm sure they especially can see the bigger picture of this and who is doing what. Honestly, I never thought Democrats would be this brazen this soon on showing what it would be like to live in a communist country. Apparently they really do think this is a good and smart thing to do. I don't think their argument is winning, especially when you look across the globe and see other nations like Germany, Canada, and Australia moving away from their recent ventures into neo-socialism/communism.

    1. The wildlife will prefer having the park to themselves.

  3. Sooner or later, one of these stunts will get somebody hurt or killed.

Then we'll see the Choom Gang scramble.

  4. Question: Early on many mornings along the road through the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park it is not unusual to come upon a small herd of buffalo lying down on the orad way, blocking it entirely. So...if you stop to await their slow arousal and movement, are you "recreating?" If you get pout of your car at such a time is that "aggravated recreating?"

I seriously think this idea of stopping people from "recreating" on public land is a 1st Amendment violation, if such activity does not impede or violate the rights of others in public spaces and places. How do you close a public place?

  5. Re-thinking this idea of going to Yellowstone to intentionally get arrested for "recreating" in a publicly owned space, I realized the $2500 for the trip is the chump change part...the cost of attorneys to defend and pursue the public space right of assembly and free speech issues would be over $100,000+...unless some ACLU troops want to join on pro bono.

This feature is essentially how an autocratic government decreases you rights without legislation. It boil down to who will enforce laws and compliance with the Constitution, and if the government itself won't., how many of us can afford to do so individually?

  6. Yes. I'd been thinking of doing the same sort of thing at closed places here by me, but the cost of the court case is kind of off putting.
