Bernini was one of the best sculptors who ever lived. I went to Santa Maria della Vittoria specifically to look at that sculpture. It is difficult to see from the pews, and the architecture of the interior of that church very nearly overwhelms it. But it is such a strong work that it carries its own weight, so to speak. The delicacy of the grip of the angel on the arrow and on Saint Teresa's garment is incredibly delicate - you really can't believe it's carved out of marble.
Italy is a treat for anyone who loves great sculpture. Turns out they have some nice paintings there, too.
