So after the Connecticut rampage we ask: Why is there evil?

There is no answer on why.  There are no words.  Evil exists.  In a way the rampages of a mad man, while obviously directed at a target, have similar unpredictable mayhem component of an earthquake, tsunami or hurricane.  We can discuss how to prevent mad men from going on rampages.  We can hopefully reduce such events, but such things will still happen.  But there are no guarantees.

We would like such horrors never to happen, and fortunately they are rare, but they do happen.  Whether you are a believer or not, most of us hope there is some meaning to all of this.
"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away."   Revelation 21:4
"He will swallow up death for all time, And the Lord God will wipe tears away from all faces, And He will remove the reproach of His people from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken."    Isaiah 25:8
I pray and hope that the victims and their families find peace and solace.  I am so sorry this happened.
