Mad Men: Season 5, Episode 12 Commissions and Fees

This is really not appropriate given last night's episode...

Why does everything turn out crappy?
Mad Men fans shocked by ending... well it was sad, not shocking (because it was predictable).
Celebrating Lane Pryce...

Update:  Is Dish Network insane?  I will never renew with Dish after this.

  1. Why did Layne try the Jaguar first? There is a much longer tradition of suicide by gas in Britain than in the US--it all stems from the greater use of coal gas in the UK. Coal gas, unlike natural gas used today, has a significant portion of carbon monoxide. The Brits were (and still are) a coal-rich country and every house used to have access. The discovery of North Sea oil and gas in the 1960's led to a change over. Nowadays you can't really kill yourself from CO poisoning from an unlit oven (you can blow your house up though).

    1. I thought the jag an especially harsh blow to his wife. Suicide is never good but work is better than a gift from the wife.

  2. Willie Loman tried using coal gas but that was 1940's America. We switched to nat gas shortly after the war and before Britain did.

Exhaust fumes are rich in CO.
