The Boston Globe corrects itself: No proof of Elizabeth Warren being Native American...

The Boston Globe finally catches up to where most other people have been for a while now:
Correction: Because of a reporting error, a story in the May 1 Metro section and the accompanying headline incorrectly described the 1894 document that was purported to list Elizabeth Warren’s great-great-great grandmother as a Cherokee. The document, alluded to in a family newsletter found by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, was an application for a marriage license,  not the license itself. Neither the society nor the Globe has seen the primary document, whose existence has not been proven.
Translation of these smoke signals:  Elizabeth Warren appears to be a pale face!

And the only proof of connection to the Cherokee so far:  One of her relatives helped round up the tribe for the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma.

Update:  Bob Belevedere has a post linking to Victor Davis Hanson on this subject.  Definitely worth reading.  Bob and VDH are both spot on  (Bob's criticism is justified but at least VDH gets to where he needs to get).

First Harvard woman of color?  Well technically pinkish is a color, but she was hardly the first woman.
