The Falklands Island war was 30 years ago and we supported the British. Why would President Obama do something like this?
You will not build trust with the Argentines over this, but the British sure as hell know that they cannot trust you.
Update:
Ann Althouse compiles verbal flubs of President Obama. But while it is funny to dish a little back to the Democrats on things like this (Bush was pillared for it), it is the pandering to Argentina at the expense of the British that is the problem. Either we support the British or we don't. And if we don't let's debate the wisdom of doing that (I believe it is exceedingly foolish and dangerous to do this). Attempting to use the Argentine name for the islands is a signal we do not want to send unless there is a reason to do so.
Update:
The apple did not fall far from the tree...
Obama was hoping to impress Latin American leaders at the Summit of the Americas this weekend by using the Latin American name for the disputed Falkland Islands. Unfortunately, he used the wrong word, embarrassing himself.I understand the Argentines disagree with how things turned out, but we do not need to be encouraging them to do something rash again.
