This is all hypothetical, but I wonder how Sarah Palin would now be viewed if she’d stayed as the Alaska guv and was now brought into a national election (as VP)? McCain was such a weak presidential candidate he had to have her; Romney is not nearly as weak as McCain.

I am not sure she would have prevailed though the primaries, but she certainly would have been a contender if she finished her term (arguably she would have been a contender if she ran this time). But I get the feeling she does not really want it (and I can't blame her given how they treated her).
