I have always loved the music of the Gershwins. I am also a huge fan of Eric Owens (he was great in Das Rheingold). I am also a big fan of Angel Blue. I have not seen this production, so I am looking forward to it. A good show just as summer is ending...
I am surprised cancel culture has not taken out this show. It was written by dead white Jewish guys, based on a book by an establishment dead white Southerner, so you'd think the ΓΌber-woke would declare it cultural appropriation and full of racial stereotropes. It actually has drawn that criticism from some, it is just those criticsms have not gained critical mass (yet). Give it time. Woke never sleeps. Fortunately, the vast majority of the public love Porgy and Bess, which gives it some protection.
