Very few places in the world could sustain a Category 5 storm grinding on them for two straight days (you need reinforced concrete buildings and high strength hurricanes shutters to even begin to withstand the wind). Even then, if there is flooding (which of course there was), there is not stopping that. 

Abaco needs assistance. The islands got smashed. The death toll is only going up as bodies are discovered. 

 The Bahama islands are going to need a lot of help. These links are probably ok (I trust Samaritan's Purse and World Vision). The Grand Bahama Port Authority seems legitimate too. Money is usually best to legitimate charities who can get help where it is needed most.
