Unlucky for the Knights Templars but some argue this particular date is over done.
The Knights Templar should be credited with creating the first banking system. That unfortunately was probably the cause of their undoing, since the King of France was probably more concerned with the money he owed the order than their alleged heresy. This arrest is credited with giving Friday the 13th the reputation it has.

ReplyDeleteDepends on what you mean. Do you mean for Europeans? Banking systems that lend in excess of their holdings and lending money at interest go back at least as far as Babylon. The ability to transfer funds from one location to another is also a very ancient practice.
