Judge Neil Gorsuch is Donald Trump's SCOTUS Nominee

Great.  Now Cry It Out Chucky.

Don Surber: Trump's SCOTUS pick shuts up National Review I understand your need for a few 'I told you sos,' but let's get Gorsuch confirmed. Now we need to make sure Hatch, McCain, Graham and McConnell do what needs to be done in the Senate.

A Reminder to Orin Hatch, John McCain, Lindsay Graham, and especially Mitch McConnell...

GOPe can't lose this fight. You think the left is freaking out, wait for what the conservative base will do if this SCOTUS nomination gets screwed by the GOPe. So why not give Chuck Schumer something to really cry about?

I like Pryor. I like Gorsuch. I like Hardiman. But mainly, I want a conservative who will remain a conservative at the Supreme Court.

Granite Grok says Mitch is in a touch place. Yeah, but it was pretty much going to go this way anyhow. Short of Trump nominating Merrill Garland, the Dems have to fight to appease their own base. Unlike the GOP, the Dems can lose this and survive another day.  The GOPe has to win this fight.

Now Allahpundit noted that there may be a way for McConnell to pretend the Democrats have already done this, which I suppose could give some weak kneed GOPe a face saving way out. But you know what I think would be way better?  Tell Chuck Schumer collectively to screw himself.

It is going to happen anyway. And the Dems will suddenly perceive this as the catastrophe it is (for them). Because if another Justice steps down or dies, Trump only needs a simple majority to get that nominee through. And the next Senate voting cycle does not favor Democrats.

Update:

There is a 'Bachelor' quality to this roll out...

President Trump fires acting AG for defying immigration ban

Instapundit: NY Post: That was fast!

Statement on the Appointment of Dana Boente as Acting Attorney General

The acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, has betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States. This order was approved as to form and legality by the Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel.

Ms. Yates is an Obama Administration appointee who is weak on borders and very weak on illegal immigration.

It is time to get serious about protecting our country. Calling for tougher vetting for individuals travelling from seven dangerous places is not extreme. It is reasonable and necessary to protect our country.

Tonight, President Trump relieved Ms. Yates of her duties and subsequently named Dana Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, to serve as Acting Attorney General until Senator Jeff Sessions is finally confirmed by the Senate, where he is being wrongly held up by Democrat senators for strictly political reasons.

"I am honored to serve President Trump in this role until Senator Sessions is confirmed. I will defend and enforce the laws of our country to ensure that our people and our nation are protected," said Dana Boente, Acting Attorney General.

Who is behind shooting attack at the mosque in Quebec City? Update: The terror suspects identified as Mohamed Khadir and Alexandre Bissonnette. Bissonnette pro Trump?

Five are reportedly dead at the Mosque. Two suspects are reportedly in custody. One allegedly of the suspects allegedly has a Québécois name and the shooter supposedly had a Québécois accent. We still do not know if this was an anti Muslim shooting or a Muslim on Muslim attack.

This is a breaking story...so it will develop.

Leftists freaking out about Syrian Refugees today are hypocrites and liars...

Those on the left freaking out today over President Trump's executive order temporarily banning refugees from Syria can go, with all due respect, GF themselves. They were silent as Christians and other religious minorities were left to die in Syria and Iraq at the hands of ISIS (and sometimes our supposed allies we were supporting) when Barack Obama was in charge. As Elliot Abrams in Newsweek noted in September: The Obama Administration effectively bars Christian, but not Muslim refugees from Syria.

Trump is flipping that policy, making the emphasis on bringing in Christian refugees.  This makes sense for several good reasons: 1) Christians are targeted for the harshest treatment by ISIS in Syria, 2) Christian refugees are easier to vet for safety coming to the United States, 3) Christian refugees are easier to assimilate in the United States, and 4) Barack Obama over favored Muslim Syrians for years, so it fairer to focus now on Christians.  I would also encourage our refugee police to embrace bringing in other religious minorities facing persecution and death at the hands of ISIS.

And leftists, do not keep bringing up Anne Frank and Jews fleeing the Nazis. Your Democrat hero Franklin Delano Roosevelt did very little to help Jewish refugees into the USA. European Jews were also a zero threat on becoming terrorists once they got here. FDR also could have done far more to disrupt and slow the Holocaust.

Why Twitter Is Failing and the EU is doomed: #FreeSargonOfAkkad

Yeah, yeah, I know Twitter is a private platform and it can ban people for any reason it wants. That does not make what Twitter did above right. It is also a stupid position for Twitter, because that is why Twitter is failing as a social media platform.

And what Sargon of Akkad said is absolutely right. And everyone knows it is right. And you wonder how we got Brexit and Trump? More of this and Le Pen may win in France.

March for Life 2017

Donald Trump is hardly perfect, but as Ace notes, he is willing to take the media on over their own biases in a way none of us have ever seen. And that is something to be thankful for. And Vice President Mike Pence is the highest ranked politician ever to attend this march (and this is not mere posing, since Pence has a long history of attending before today).

So while the left spins itself into butter, the right needs to focus on the opportunity right in front of us. I'm quickly getting tired of conservative pundits like Kevin Williamson and John Podhortez lecturing us. I generally like Kevin and John, but they are not being objective (perhaps they need a White Russian, and no not some pale prostitute in a Moscow hotel). As a former #NeverTrumper Erick Erickson notes, there is a lot to be thankful for. And it's week one.

With all due respect Kevin, you state "[i]f the Right gets a couple of good Supreme Court justices, corporate-tax reform, and some meaningful regulatory relief, we can call that a win." Really? Try to control your enthusiasm. Pause a second and then think what that really means. That would be an awesome victory. Think of what could have been if Hillary Clinton won (an alternative dystopian future I thought we would be heading into on the morning of November 8). Trump will also likely appoint half the federal bench during his first term. For me, it's been a little Christmas morning every day since.

When Trump screws up (and he will) then you critics can say something. Until then, I am going to enjoy the winning and encourage the Trump Administration to do more positive things.

State Department Officials Resign Over Trump? Update: Or were they fired and there are just four of them?

Anyone who has spent some time around State Department personnel knows, many of them (not all) are despicable lefty lifers who are contemptuous to American values and interests. They think they are above mere politicians, let alone American citizens. Do you want to guess which ones are leaving the State Department over Rex Tillerson and Donald Trump?

Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out! I doubt there is a lot of courage in this decision. They are probably all eligible for retirement and going out to try to score consulting and lobbying gigs.

Good negotiation involves understanding the motivations of who you are negotiating with...

Donald Trump can certainly be an a****** on occasion (we all knew that going in), but when it comes to understanding human condition and motivation in an objective way he is way more astute than Barack Obama. I recognize Mexicans (and neighboring Central and South countries) are sensitive about North American bullying. But I also recognize Trump is no fool when it comes to negotiating, he knows it is carrots and sticks. And being respectful to Mexico does not mean we have to tolerate Mexico ignoring our borders.

The "wall" is one aspect of border security. We also need to start enforcing our existing laws and coming up with a system to track visa overstays (almost half of illegal immigration are people who fly into the USA and overstay their visas). We need to start fining employers who hire illegals (in a way that makes hiring illegals not worth the trouble). Efforts to deport illegals needs to start with criminals. We do those things and you mostly solve the immigration issue.
