Basic Interest Interview Scene Rule 5 (NSFW)

Most movies and television shows now a days limit the bad guys to white males, but Basic Instinct (1992) had a progressive bi sexual woman, played by Sharon Stone, in the antagonist role.

Gay rights groups flipped out over a bisexual woman as a murderous narcissistic psychopath--as if being bisexual somehow inoculates one from plotting and committing such a crime (warning: video below if played not safe for work or children):

The Democrats and GOP Establishment Have Chosen Their Destructor

On immigration policy, party elders were caught completely by surprise. Even canny operators like Ted Cruz didn’t appreciate the depth of voter anger on the subject. And why would they? If you live in an affluent ZIP code, it’s hard to see a downside to mass low-wage immigration. Your kids don’t go to public school. You don’t take the bus or use the emergency room for health care. No immigrant is competing for your job. (The day Hondurans start getting hired as green energy lobbyists is the day my neighbors become nativists.) Plus, you get cheap servants, and get to feel welcoming and virtuous while paying them less per hour than your kids make at a summer job on Nantucket. It’s all good.
Tucker Carson's right (and I agree with Ace, it's a hell of a piece). And he is not saying Donald Trump's policies are right (Personally, I'm not sure what exactly Trump's policies really are--they tend to shift). But emotionally (and that is what's driving this) Donald Trump is the response to two terms of Barack Obama and a lot of hypocrisy and self delusion by pundits on the conservative right.  There is a lot of frustration out there...

Is Trump going to win the Iowa caucuses? It looks like it. Ted Cruz really needs to win Iowa (and I am pulling for Ted). This is a state Trump should not be competitive in, yet he is leading. Polls are notorious off there (I suspect that is mostly due to Iowans messing with callers), rumors are Trump does not have a great GOTV organization, but my guess is Trump is going to do well.

Trump's media reactions are a lot more thought out than people give him credit for (although Mark Halprin admits Trump is taking risks, anticipating and adjusting as he goes along). The reason Trump is not getting as much backlash over his crazy comments is a lot of people get they are intended to be over the top statements.

Jonah may self medicating for a while...

Remember when Trump attacked Charles Krauthammer and Jonah Goldberg for having the temerity of criticizing him? It seems like years ago now. I have always liked Jonah and I have nothing against Krauthammer, but Trump promoted himself by bucking the media gatekeepers on both sides of the isle. It is brilliant play given how hostile the left media has been to the right. Some of these attacks do not make sense to me (the Megyn Kelly obsession of Trump seems more like a fourth grader who likes a girl, so he goes and pulls her hair) and I agree with Mark Levin, Trump would have been in a better position than he is now if he toned down the rhetoric of destruction against his opponents. I thought his personal attacks on Ben Carson, for example, were not necessary.

Then again, maybe some of this is misdirection as DaTechGuy notes. Trump avoided this contrast, for now, although it will be certainly a lot more of this in the future (he stole this concept from Jimmy Fallon). The media will go all out to take out Trump if he is the nominee against Hillary (but that is true regardless of who the GOP nominates).

Does all of this mean that if Trump does take Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, it's over?  No. I assume this will winnow out to Cruz and Rubio challenging him (yes Jeb, it's time for you and the other hanger ons to go). We make predictions early in the NFL season and they don't always play out as predicted, but the Trump phenomenon is definitely real.

Help Cynthia Yockey

Paul Kantner RIP

Cam Newton is black?

I agree with Charles Barkley on this: This is a stupid controversy

Cam Newton has shown some real play and leadership this year for his team. I give him a lot of credit for that. Do I like him? Hell no, I was rooting for the Seahawks (or the Packers).  And his theatrics are annoying to anyone playing against him, but I am pretty sure Carolina fans like him a whole lot right now and will be loving him if he manages to win them a Lombardi trophy.  Carolina is a dynamic team right now.

You may want to root for Peyton Manning, instead. I suspect the Broncos do not want a repeat of their last trip to the Super Bowl--and they really want a Lombardi trophy too. Peyton is one of the greats of the game, this may be his last Super Bowl, and he and the Broncos managed to keep the insufferable Patriots and Tom Brady out of the big game.

I am hoping for a really good game.

Why is an extremist group like the SPLC monitoring so called extremists groups?

Let me start that I am not a fan of the Ammon Bundy Occupy Ranchers in Oregon. It's a counter productive and stupid protest on many levels. I support many of their underlying positions. I am very sympathetic to their positions regarding federal overreach and control of these open lands in the west. I am especially sympathetic to the Hammonds, who were railroaded (in my opinion) from the get. The Hammonds, however, are not supporting the Bundy Occupy Ranchers.  Ammon Bundy, who was recently arrested, did ask the remaining protesters (who are described by NPR as militants) at the wildlife refuge to stand down (do you remember NPR describing the those protesting in Ferguson as "militants").

As I was listening to NPR this morning and I heard some spokesman from SPLC commenting how there are rumors that LeVoy Finicum was shot with his hands up.  Wait a second: Hand Up Don't Shoot?

I don't recall NPR acting so supportive of the police in other protests, do you?

First of all we all need to point out that SPLC is (in my opinion) a lying, partisan, tax-evading scam and extremist group created primarily to enrich the lives of the leaders of the SPLC (like Morris Dees) so they can enjoy the lifestyles of the rich and famous that would make Donald Trump blush.

Second, I don't know if the shooting of LeVoy Finicum was justified or not. I don't have an opinion because I don't have enough facts. Neither does SPLC.  I assume Cliven Bundy knows more via his son, but they of course have their own biases (as do the feds).  It's speculation at this point. Donald Douglass sums it up here: show us the evidence.

Abe Vigoda RIP

No wonder Donald Trump hates Megyn Kelly...

Instapundit: Chris Matthews should blow the racism whistle on himself, Walter Hudson: Did Trump just jump the shark? Don Surber: Did NR raise the white flag for Donald Trump?

Most electable? I still say Donald Trump has been a plus for the GOP party and field as a whole. He managed to destroy Jeb Bush, which my friends is a great gift to all the candidates (even Marco Rubio). Still, I am beyond predicting anymore when it comes to Trump, I am just sitting back and seeking how this goes...

Smitty: What's at stake?

Mark Steyn: Some Trump supporters mistake Mark Steyn as editor of National Review

Jazz Shaw says this is Trump dropping the mic. In the short term that is probably true, he is dominating the news cycle over this so that is something. Trump may still win Iowa big (this dust up probably won't win or lose it for him). But as a long term strategy to win the nomination and then the general election, this behavior is going to grow thin. He has managed to alienate friendly conservative pundits like Mark Levin and John Hawkins. And I agree with Levin, Trump would be up way more if he tried not to alienate everyone who has a disagreement with him and destroy guys like Cruz and Carson.

About that last minute Democrat Iowa "townhall" tonight...

Is CNN going to fairly do this thing or is it in the bag for Hillary?

So why now? So are Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the DNC making sure that the people at this Iowa townhall tonight are all...selectively screened for maximum Hillary Clinton benefit?

Dr. Bush and Mr. Trump

Forget about blaming Sarah Palin for Trump...

It's entirely possible that there will be a two-way race with Trump at some point before the nomination is decided. But it's nearly inconceivable that the other candidate in that head-to-head contest will be Jeb Bush. (Nearly inconceivable only because nothing is actually inconceivable this cycle.)
My apologies to Robert Lewis Stevenson, but Trump is Jeb!'s inner id released. And while I am not wild about Trump, I prefer him by far to Jeb!

When it comes to Jeb Bush, is the problem Mike Murphy, their campaign, or perhaps just Jeb!

Meanwhile Jeb!, in his own spiteful petty beta way, continues to try to destroy Marco Rubio. I was disgusted by what Marco did with the Gang of Eight, he should have begged forgiveness for that idiotic decision, but Marco is still a better candidate on every metric than Jeb!, Kasich or Christie.

National Review continues to waste time trying to take on Trump directly while real conservative candidates like Ted Cruz are taken out by the GOPe. Even the special  NR "Gentleman's Only" pictorial spread, as sassy and sexy as it is, won't help destroy Trump. If anything NR's efforts are probably helping Trump.

If you think the strategy to taking down Trump is to let the race be a match up of Jeb! or Kasich...that's insane (unless you really want Trump to be the nominee). Of course, when you recognize there is so much money to be made by campaign advisors spending Jeb Bush's campaign money, well you can probably guess Jeb! is not getting exactly unbiased internal advice. Ross Douthat has a different suggestion...which is worth paying attention to regardless of who you support because it will be the Democrat game plan on whoever survives this primary season (and the Democrats will certainly try to implement it if Trump prevails).

"I haven't seen a women this impressive since Jeb Bush"  I do not watch it much anymore, but that line is funny.

Here's also a suggestion to Megyn Kelly and Fox News, avoid personal confrontations with Donald Trump at the next debate. You will get YUGE ratings anyway and another big Trump-Kelly dust up is just a distraction. Just ask straight up questions of all the candidates (Trump included) and you might direct some at issues involving Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders too (since whoever prevails will likely be facing one of them in the general). How about a few early questions (when ratings are highest) about Hillary's criminal investigation or the re-review of what really happened at Benghazi?
