The Knockout Game

Crack is knocking himself out over this...
Trooper York, via El Polo Raylan, put up this post at Lem's Place.  Crack Emcee reponds here, here and here. Sorry Crack, but that does not explain it at all. Slavery and Jim Crow does not explain or justify the knockout game (other than being a source of anger).

The knockout game is not new.  It has been around for decades.

As for the root cause, again imhao only, for some of these kids acting like this (which is pretty much beyond the realm of civilized society):
We have raised a generation or two of parents who can't parent -- negligence and abuse do crop up, absenteeism crops up even more, and then there's the phenomenon of parents who want to be their kids' friends; none of this is race specific, and none of it contributes to children who act civil. And because the parents are incapable, that leaves society on the hook.
BUT, but....
One of the biggest things that I personally have seen is, that we have taken away all personal control of their households away from these parents. A lot of them are on some sort of aid due to poverty; that means visits from the social worker (because of course poor people are too inept and lacking somehow to be good parents). Visits from the social are viewed with more fear and trepidation than a visit from the cops -- because the social worker can, in the blink of an eye cause a parent to lose a kid or all manner of other life wrecking things. The parents (or parent, because we've also punished poor people for trying to keep intact families) can be punished for trying to take control of their kids (and at a very young age the kids learn this; I've seen plenty of them tell the adults off "you can't spank/do anything to me; I'll tell the social worker", and it has effect). So, by the time these kids are in their teens, if not earlier, the parents have by and large tossed up their hands -- I can't say as though I blame them, they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
And then you get out of control, crazy animal acting kids, and no, it isn't race specific, but society will be meeting with them and not in a good way.
This group is the largest group that I got to see in my dealings with juveniles -- it isn't that they are bad parents, but they are parents with their hands tied behind their backs (and their feet shackled, and possibly tied down to a chair).
So there's my theory: we've developed some parents who can't parent, because they don't know how and/or they have not been given the freedom within their own homes/families to do so.
Fix that, I think a lot of these problems would lessen by quite a bit (but the reaction has been in the exact opposite of anyone doing that).

The racial component in this is definitely there (and in Brooklyn it seems to be directed at elderly Jews by black youth).  But anger over slavery justifies young men punching elderly women?  To say this is all due to the legacy of slavery or Jim Crow misses the point (and the real cause of the problem). Why aren't Democrats and black leaders in the communities where it is happening speaking out against this and condemning it?  Especially given this thuggish behavior causes most of the harm in the black community.

Update:
Really, you laugh at this?  The problem is who are the real victims of not speaking out against crime and criminal behavior?
From 1980 through 2008, 93 percent of black victims were killed by blacks.
Translation: For every Trayvon Martin killed by someone not black, nine other blacks were murdered by someone black.
In 2005, we — blacks — accounted for 13 percent of the U.S. population but 49 percent of all homicides. The numbers are staggering, the loss incomprehensible
It is nothing to laugh about.

Trooper York just posted this (I am glad there are some responsible adult black men speaking out):

    Did I midwife that?

According to the linked article, "knock out" is used to gain respect amongst peers. In that sense it reminds me of the Australian athlete shoot in the back by the teenager also trying to "gain respect."

I think for many, the "randomness" is the novelty. We are inured to centuries-old criminal retribution wherein a young up and coming criminal gang member hits a rival gang member. It's a fact of life. This is also why we ignore Chicago street violence. But to randomly and deliberately hit bystanders is really what al-Qaeda specializes in doing or also the Boston bombers. In the criminal's sick mind, innocents are nothing more than "little Eichmanns."

    1. I remember knocking out the toughest guy around was how you gained respect in fighting, not punching some old lady.

  3. Scorpion. River. Tiger. Stripes. Leopard. Spots.
    Etc.

And that's NOT me telling you how to think or whatever other stupid bullshit you tried to make out of it, Cow. That's me observing that Crack is what he is and has always been.

Before it was just friendly advice, despite what you tried to do.

    1. Cody, your anger is directed at me? Dude, you really misunderstand my comments. I will repost them here (rather than link them) because they are at Trooper's site:

Cody, if you remember I defended you.

If you are done with Crack, that's fine (nor am I criticizing it, you are right to be pissed off, Trooper too). It is justified. He obviously has his demons. I am definitely not defending his latest raaaaacism jihad. That he would live in Utah given his feelings about Mormons...well he might as well move back to France (at least the food, liquor and wine would be better). I am not challenging your right to criticize him all you want.

But if I am reluctant to help you kick him when he is down, why does that bother you?

What part of 'I don't care if you want to be friends with him or think you're friends with him, it's none of my business' do you find difficult?

Sometimes, Evi, when 'talking' to you I feel as though I'm writing in Klingon.

I wouldn't expect you to kick him while you think he's down since you consider him a friend.

And I believe I've said that approximately seven hundred and twenty three times over the past couple of months.

I suppose it's my fault. My opinion in this matter wasn't requested or solicited, after all.

Well, yeah. Still, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. And the whole nature of blog commenting is you open yourself up to other people's comments, but when you tell me how I am supposed to think ("But don't pretend he's anything but what he is, and don't try to hitch a ride across a river on his back...") that will generally get a reaction.

I am not sure this is the case or not, but the thing that bothered me most about Crack was I did not see him reach out to Troop when Troop first reported he was having heart issues. Maybe I am wrong about it, but I suspect I am right. So, no, I am not deluding myself and I am not planning any river crossings.

Cody, you completely misunderstand what I wrote and you are not getting it now. You and Crack really are a lot alike.

  4. I also like how PW says--in a comment--that if you put your hands on anyone blah blah self defense blah blah get what you get.

    Yeah.

Of course, I was a racist pig when I said it...but I guess that's evolution. Or something. Either that or Jennifer is just two faced. Hard to tell.

    LOL.

    1. What you said at the time was not racist and Crack did not even link your comments at first (which I criticized). I told Crack if he is going to accuse someone of racism, at least quote them.

Is that the "stupid bullshit" I did?

    2. Cody, you might not understand I was defending you here, but I was:

      "Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Is this the statement you lambasted Cody Jarrett on:

      Here's the thing, Crackers:
I don't go looking for people to hurt or kill.

I've never hurt or killed someone just because they were a certain color or gender or orientation.

I never would and never will.

On the other hand, there are many documented cases of black youths attacking and killing white people simply because they're white.

Defending yourself (or another) against such an attack isn't racist or evil or even wrong.

That you'd try to spin it otherwise tells us a great deal about your soul.
